How to L.O.V.E. Your Home

As Valentine’s Day approaches, love is in the air—but have you thought about extending that love to your home? Here are some of my favorite ways to L.O.V.E. my home: Less but Better, One in, One Out, Visualize What You Want, and Everyone is Different. Let’s explore how these principles can transform your space into a haven you’ll truly adore.

L – Less But Better

In a culture that celebrates accumulating and consuming more, “less but better” invites us to focus on quality over quantity. Picture this: instead of saving every piece of artwork your child has ever made, you select a small handful of the most meaningful pieces. These few cherished items will bring far more joy than an overwhelming collection.

This philosophy doesn’t just apply to what you keep in your home but also to how you spend your time. Choosing “less but better” allows you to create a space and a life filled with things that genuinely matter to you.

O – One In, One Out

The “one in, one out” rule works best after you’ve done an initial round of decluttering. Once you’ve achieved balance in your home, this principle helps maintain that harmony. The idea is simple: for every new item you bring into your home, remove one item from the same category.

This practice not only prevents clutter from sneaking back in but also encourages mindful consumption. It’s a small but powerful way to ensure your home remains a peaceful and organized space.

V – Vision for What You Want

When decluttering and organizing, it’s essential to have a clear vision of how you want your home to look, feel, and function.

One effective way to create this vision is by curating a Pinterest board filled with inspiring spaces and designs. If Pinterest isn’t your thing, you can save images from Google to a folder on your phone or computer. Whether it’s your entire home or a single closet, having a “north star” to guide you makes decisions about what to keep and what to let go much easier.

Ask yourself: Does this item fit the vision? If not, it might be time to say goodbye.

E – Everyone Is Different

Each person has unique needs and preferences, so the organizing solutions that work for one person may not work for another.

Take decanting, for example. Some people love the look of a pantry filled with uniform jars for cereals, snacks, and other staples. Others find it impractical or time-consuming. Both approaches are valid! The key is to embrace what works for you and your family, rather than striving for an ideal that doesn’t fit your lifestyle.

By applying the principles of L.O.V.E.—Less but Better, One In, One Out, Visualize What You Want, and Everyone Is Different—you can create a home that is peaceful, functional, and uniquely suited to you.

Are you ready to bring a little more L.O.V.E. into your home?
